pick a pocket book
Posted by locusbooks on April 3, 2008
At the start of the year I blogged about Pick A Pocket Book: unusual publishing model? At the time I emailed the publisher, Marlene Meier, to let her know about the post. I also said I’d be happy to post her response up here as well.
Thank you for the coments on the pickapocketbook concept.
You have all helped to make this unique publisher more aware of how people see and think about the concept. We have taken note of comments and made some improvements.
We know it is hard to trust people straight up,in particular when the concept is very different to anything else, all new idea’s are viewed with suspicion, give us time we are working hard to improve our site and gaining credability.
We now offer a refund guarantee. We are not here to deceive anyone, and we have free membership for pensioner 65+ and discount rates for 50+ seniors, single parents and other pension card holders. RJ Rowlins was a single mum on benifits.
We have realised that the younger members who work full time jobs, don’t have a lot of time to write, we have many fully paid members but they are not submitting their stories yet. By making it easier for the older writers who do have the time to write, we have had more success, we are now getting more stories. This it what we are after, the stories.
I myself, am a senior citizen with a sincere wish to see many writers’ with several pocket books each, in print.
One of our Authors, Rachael Munro, a prolific writer has 3 pocketbooks in the catelogue to date. We are barely 4 months old, we ask again to give us time to prove the concept.
The reason for the generic cover is:
1.Keep the cost down.
2.Make it reconisable everywhere.(branding)
3.No fights about front cover artwork.
4.Fast delivery to the catelogue.
To get the best price from our printer we have a 1000 unit minimum print run for each pocket book.
The writers recieve a 40% royalty.
We are attracting some new writers and a lot of published Authors who think the concept is really neat.
Our goal is to become the mills & boon of the pocket book world.
We work extremely hard to sell these pocket books for the writers. We will also be at the ‘Back to Booktown Festival’in Clunes this year. And the Writers’ Festival next year.
Please continue to watch the pickapocketbook site as it is growing and we thank you in advance for any suggestions you may want to make. info@pickapocketbook.com
