In lieu of formulating thoughts/posting, I will now proceed to wow you with my linking ability:
Is the net good for writers? Lengthy article/rant about the internet and, well, writers. Well worth a gander if you have the time. (Thanks snacky)
More on user-generated content. Namely, that there is no such thing, really. That the average person is too busy to make commercially viable content, and that sites like youtube are more about discovering talent than creating piles of content. But it overlooks the fact that a lot of user-generated content IS being generated, and that a lot of it is crap.
It’s Nanowrimo time again. I’ve successfully done this for the past two years, firstly writing a not-too-horrible (considering) bisexual chick lit piece and then last year writing a god-awful thing with absolutely NO narrative (I thought the plot would come to me but alas it never did). Although I forgot to sign up this year, I’ll be writing.
A wonderful and thoughtful site on book design. (Thanks Kate)
Take a look at many options about getting a book out into the world, with a particular focus on finding a publisher and a few words about treating self-publishing as a business, which is excellent advice.
